Information collected

Reading essays and the archive requires a Thinkgram account. Essay titles, summaries, and questions are publicly visible. If you create an account, Thinkgram receives information needed to provide and secure it, such as your email address, name, profile image, sign-in method, and an account identifier. If you use Google to sign in, Google provides the basic profile information you authorize it to share.

When you use the site, Thinkgram and its service providers may automatically receive limited technical information, including your IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, referring site, approximate location, timestamps, and security or diagnostic logs. Thinkgram uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate readership and page usage. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies or associate these analytics with an identifiable individual. Essential cookies and similar technologies are used to keep you signed in and protect the service.

If you contact Thinkgram, the information in your message and the contact details you provide are collected so the inquiry can be answered.

If paid subscriptions become available, the checkout provider will collect the information needed to complete the transaction. Thinkgram may receive limited purchase and subscription information, such as your email address, plan, transaction status, and renewal status, but does not receive or store your full payment-card number.

How information is used

Information is used to:

• create and maintain your account;
• provide access to member publications and subscription features;
• record your email subscription preference and deliver the weekly essays you subscribe to;
• authenticate users, prevent abuse, and protect the service;
• operate, troubleshoot, and improve the site;
• process transactions and manage subscriptions when paid access launches;
• respond to questions and service messages; and
• meet legal, tax, security, and compliance obligations.

Thinkgram does not sell personal information and does not use it for third-party behavioral advertising.

Depending on the context and applicable law, this processing is based on providing the service you request, Thinkgram’s legitimate interests in operating and securing the publication, your consent, or compliance with legal obligations.

Service providers

Personal information is shared only as needed to operate the service, comply with law, or protect Thinkgram and its users. Current and planned providers include:

• Clerk, for authentication and account management;
• Vercel, for hosting, delivery, security, technical logs, and aggregate web analytics;
• Google, when you choose Google sign-in; and
• Paddle, when paid subscriptions and billing are introduced.

Clerk processes authentication data for Thinkgram as a service provider. Each provider may also process certain information under its own privacy policy, for example to secure its service or meet legal obligations.

Information may also be disclosed if reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, investigate fraud or security issues, or protect legal rights. If the publication is transferred to another operator, relevant information may be transferred with it, subject to this policy and applicable law.

Publication email

Completing signup after the subscription disclosure records your request to receive Thinkgram’s weekly essays by email. Existing accounts are not enrolled by signing in. You can unsubscribe from any publication email without deleting your account or changing your website membership. Essential account and security messages are separate from publication email.

Retention and security

Account information is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward when needed for security, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or legitimate operational records. Different service providers may retain technical and transaction records according to their own policies and legal obligations.

Thinkgram uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information held by Thinkgram. You may also object to or request limits on certain processing where applicable law provides those rights. Identity may need to be verified before a request is completed.

You can sign out at any time and can request deletion of your Thinkgram account. Canceling a paid subscription and deleting an account are separate actions. Transaction records may still be retained where required by law or by the merchant of record.

If you are not satisfied with a response, you may also have the right to contact the privacy or data-protection authority where you live.

International use

Thinkgram and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, providers use appropriate safeguards for international transfers. Local privacy rights remain available where applicable.

Children

Thinkgram is intended for a professional audience and is not directed to children under 13. Thinkgram does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the service changes. The date at the top will identify the latest version. Material changes will be communicated through the site or by email when appropriate.
